Bowflex TC5500 Treadclimber Review

The Bowflex TC5500 is a step above the TC5000 in that it gives you a much better looking machine, that is more ergonomic to use. It is however nearly $800 more than the TC1000 which itself cost $2500.

When you are looking at getting home fitness equipment you understand the fact that you are going to have to shell out some money because the cheaper ones are just not worth it.

Yet making a purchase is not something that is done on the spur of the moment.

Many people get the same ones that they are used to using in the gym simply because they know how it performs, and it has no reliability issues.

This option is obviously only for those who have that kind of money. For most of us, it is a compromise situation, where we spend as much as we can afford, and hope that the machine is as good as the manufacturers say it is. Honest reviews of different machines are therefore very valued, and if you are looking for one about the Bowflex C5500 this is it.

Description

As mentioned above there is basically no difference between the TC5000 and the TC5500 except that it looks better. It gives you the same 6 programs and 12 resistance levels. The heart rate monitor with chest strap is also standard on both. Even the viewer that has split LCD screens to show the different information like speed, distance, heart rate etc is the same.

The Good

Because the TC5500 is almost a ditto of the TC5000 all the good things about it remain. It is therefore one of the best fat burning machines there is, and the fact that you can switch between treadmill mode and climbing mode at the flip of a switch makes it even more convenient to use.

The Negative

Unfortunately just as the good remains from the TC5000, so does the bad. And paying so much extra for what is in effect just a spruce up job on the looks front is really a little too thick. The TC5000 had a number of reliability issues with the motor conking off within a couple of years and the hydraulics screeching like a pig in pain. Although the customer service is good enough, it cannot compensate for a bad product.

The Verdict

There’s nothing that can be said about this model other than that it is so similar to the TC5000 that if you had your eyes closed when using it, you wouldn’t know the difference. It is also a very low selling model and with all the issues with reliability that Bowflex comes with with these machines, it is just not worth the money that you spend on it.

Bowflex TC5000 Treadclimber Review

The Bowflex TC5000 is another of Bowflex’s popular treadclimbers. It is much better than the older TC1000 and considering that they both cost the same at $2500 there is really no questions about which one you should go for.

Yet $2500 is not cheap. When putting so much of money on one item it is good to check beforehand if this is exactly what you want.

The TC5000 is a treadclimber which means that you can use it in treadmill mode for walking or in climbing mode when you want a more serious workout. It has two treadies on which you keep your foot. They are wide enough to accommodate any size, and there is really no fear of you losing your balance.

It has two handgrips on the sides, and five LCD displays in one panel in front, each of which give you different information. This is comprehensive, and covers everything from speed and distance, to height climbed and heart rate from an integrated heart rate monitor.

You get 6 programs and 12 resistance levels, all of which are better than using a treadmill in burning fat.

The Positives

The TC5000 is a much better machine than the TC1000. It has a bigger and more powerful motor, has more features, and does not have some of the glitches that the earlier one came with. People who have used it also say how it is more effective at burning fat than a treadmill is and considering that it also occupies much lesser space than a treadmill, may be a better choice.

The Negatives

Unfortunately the TC5000 has not cleared all the problems yet and many users have complained about the quality of the product. Although it seems sturdy, it does not seem well put together, with the hydraulics making noises on even new machines. Although the 5 yr guarantee for motor is a step in the right direction, labour is not covered which means that you either pay for replacement, or you do it yourself.

It is very possible that this machine does not last as long as you think it will which may give you pause for thought. With so much of money at stake, you will not want to keep buying new machines every couple of years.

Recommendation

The design of the machine is very good, and is the only saving grace. It works much better than either a treadmill or an elliptical machine and if your goal is to get in shape, is one of the best machines you can buy. The user experience is a let down though. The hydraulics screech and need oiling every week. The belts and motor are not as strong as they are supposed to be, and in many cases conk off even before the expiry of the warranty period. Although they are replaced, without any questions, it is a hassle that many of us can do without.

Ultimately for the price you pay, you not only expect a great machine, you also expect a reliable one. This is not too big an ask as there are a number of other manufacturers out there that give both. If you really want this machine, check through a few more reviews before making your decision.

Bowflex TC1000 Review

The Bowflex TC1000 is their treadclimber, which looks like a combination between an elliptical trainer and a stepper. It is not a very complicated machine and is quite simple to set up and use.

Anything that makes you use your body is good for you, so there is no question about its effectiveness. The only question is about value for money.

Considering that a new TC1000 will cost you nearly $2500, there are a number of other options that you can go with, so you need to be really sure that this is the one for you.

Description

The TC1000 as already mentioned looks like a mix between an elliptical trainer and a stepper. There is a U shaped front that has handles on the sides that you can grasp as you work out, and a display in front that gives you the required information. There are two steppers below that are operated hydraulically to smoothen out your action. It is also not very big and is easily stored in a corner when not in use. This is easily accomplished with the wheels that have been thoughtfully provided.

It weighs in at a modest 185 lbs but can carry up to 300 lbs. It has 6 different program options and 12 resistance levels. It is marketed as a good quality exercise machine at a rock bottom price.

The Good

It is very compact and is therefore very good for small spaces. It is a great way to work off that excess fat from your bottom and thighs and is sturdily built. It is a simple mechanism and therefore will not cause long term problems. The motor is powerful enough to take anyone, and the different workout options and resistance levels work together to start showing noticeable results in less than 6 weeks of use.

The Bad

The machine is a very basic machine, and at $2500 you kind of expect more. In fact considering that there are many a treadmill that is very good, last decades and gives you similar workout options at lower prices, this price may seem a little too high.

The warranty is also not that great. You get only a 1 year warranty on the motor, parts and labour, woefully low when compared to the lifetime warranty that you get on the motor in some cases.

The Verdict

You may be forgiven for thinking that this is an overpriced product. At the price that they retail at, you may not even want to consider it. The warranty too is not that great and leads one to think that the actual product is not as good as it seems to be. Yet if you really want a stepper this may be a good option, especially if you get one of the refurbished ones. These are there in plenty, and retailed by Bowflex itself and you can get them quite cheap if you look around.
